Frequently Asked Questions
What are travel and flight socks, and which ones do you stock?
They are graduated medical compression garments worn on the legs during long flights, long drives and other periods of sitting still, where the compression is firmest at the ankle and eases further up the leg. This category holds two Juzo garments made in Germany: the Adventure AD, a durable ribbed below-knee sock with a high cotton content that wears like an ordinary men's sock, and the Inspiration ATU, sheer waist-high tights designed for pregnancy with a soft body panel that puts no compression on the bump. Both come in compression class 1 or 2, and the Inspiration ATU is available open or closed toe. They are used as part of the management of leg symptoms as advised by a clinician.
When do I put them on for a journey, and how long do I keep them on?
Most people put compression garments on in the morning before setting off, when the legs are at their least swollen, and keep them on for the journey and the rest of the travel day. Standard compression stockings and tights come off at night; if a clinician has told you that you need a garment for night-time, that is a different product and a question for our specialist. To put a stocking on, turn it inside out down to the heel, put the foot in and work it up while smoothing out the wrinkles — never pull it up by the top band. Arion Easy-Slide donning aids and grip gloves make this much easier.
Which compression class should I choose for flying?
Compression classes describe how much pressure a garment applies at the ankle, and both the Juzo Adventure AD and the Juzo Inspiration ATU are offered in class 1 and class 2. We cannot tell you which class is right for you — that decision belongs to your doctor, or to a fitting with one of our specialists, who are certified in medical compression therapy and trained by Juzo in Germany. On prescriptions: CCL 1 and most ready-made CCL 2 garments do not need one, while CCL 3, CCL 4 and every custom flat-knit therapeutic garment do. If you have a referral from your doctor, bring it to your fitting.
Do I need to be measured, and what if standard sizes don't fit me?
Yes — compression only works when the garment fits the limb properly, so measurement matters more than a usual sock size. You can be measured at our clinic at 610 Clover Bay Tower, Business Bay, Dubai (30–45 minutes), at a home visit in Dubai or Abu Dhabi (45–60 minutes), or in a guided video consultation (20–30 minutes); wear loose clothing that gives easy access to the leg. In-clinic and virtual fittings are free when you buy a garment from us, and a home visit may carry a travel fee that a colleague confirms when booking. If standard sizes do not fit, custom flat-knit garments are made to your own measurements at Juzo in Germany and take 2 to 4 weeks from the day the measurements are confirmed.
How do I wash them, and how long will they last?
Machine wash at 40 °C on a gentle cycle in a mesh laundry bag, using a detergent made for compression garments. Do not use fabric softener, do not tumble dry and do not iron — heat and softener break down the elastic fibres and the compression goes with them. With daily wear a medical compression garment typically holds its compression for 4 to 6 months, so replacing roughly every six months is normal; if you only wear them for occasional travel, they will last longer, but the fabric still ages.
