These stockings provide stronger graduated pressure for more significant venous insufficiency, oedema or post-thrombotic symptoms. Firm support helps control swelling and discomfort; your specialist can confirm the right compression class for your condition.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are maximum support and firm compression stockings?
They are medical stockings that apply stronger graduated pressure, firmest at the ankle and decreasing up the leg. They are used as part of the management of more significant venous insufficiency, oedema or post-thrombotic symptoms, as advised by a clinician. Compression is described in classes (CCL 1 to CCL 4) measured in mmHg; which class is appropriate is a decision for your doctor or for a fitting with our specialist, not something to choose from a product page.
Do I need a prescription for firm compression stockings?
CCL 1 and most ready-made CCL 2 garments do not require a prescription. CCL 3 and CCL 4, and every custom flat-knit therapeutic garment, do require one. If you already have a doctor's referral, bring it to your fitting so the specialist can work from it.
Firm stockings are hard to pull on. Is there anything that helps?
Yes. The Arion Magnide Aid 2in1 1709 is a donning and doffing aid with a magnetic system that guides the stocking into place, so you can put it on and take it off without bending, gripping hard or reaching down; it works with both closed-toe and open-toe stockings. Arion Easy-Slide aids and grip gloves also help, particularly in the higher compression classes. As a technique, turn the stocking inside out down to the heel, place the foot in, then work it up smoothing wrinkles as you go, and never pull it up by the top band.
How am I measured, and when is a custom garment needed instead of ready-made?
We fit in our Business Bay clinic at 610 Clover Bay Tower, Dubai (30-45 minutes), on a home visit in Dubai or Abu Dhabi (45-60 minutes), or by guided video consultation (20-30 minutes); in-clinic and virtual fittings are free when a garment is bought from us, and a home visit may carry a travel fee that a colleague confirms when booking. Wear loose clothing that gives easy access to the leg being measured. Ready-made stockings come in standard sizes and are held in stock, while custom flat-knit garments are made to your own measurements at Juzo in Germany and take 2 to 4 weeks from the day the measurements are confirmed.
How do I wash firm compression stockings, and how long do they last?
Machine wash at 40 C on a gentle cycle in a mesh laundry bag, using a detergent made for compression garments. No fabric softener, no tumble drying and no ironing, as heat and softener break down the elastic fibres and the compression goes with them. A medical compression garment typically lasts 4 to 6 months of daily wear, so replacing roughly every six months is normal. Standard compression stockings are removed at night; if you have been told you need compression overnight, that requires a purpose-made night garment and is a question for the specialist.
