Overview

Lymphedema Compression Stockings & Socks

Graduated leg compression supports lymph and venous return, helping to reduce and stabilise swelling in the foot, calf and thigh. A range of lengths and compression classes lets you match the garment to the affected area and the stage of your treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are lymphedema compression stockings, and what is the difference between AD and AG lengths?
They are medical stockings with graduated compression that is firmest at the ankle and eases up the leg, used as part of the management of lymphoedema and lipoedema as advised by a clinician. AD means below-knee, like the JUZO Move AD and the flat-knit JUZO Expert AD; AG means thigh-high, like the JUZO Move AG with its silicone hold-up top. Which length suits the affected area is decided with your doctor or at a fitting with our specialist.
What do the compression classes mean, and do I need a prescription?
Compression class (CCL 1, 2 or 3 on the Juzo Move AD and Move AG) describes how much pressure the garment applies, and the correct class is chosen by your doctor or during a fitting with our specialist — never by us over a page. CCL 1 and most ready-made CCL 2 garments do not require a prescription, while CCL 3, CCL 4 and every custom flat-knit therapeutic garment do. If you have a doctor's referral, bring it with you to your fitting.
How am I measured, and when is a custom garment needed instead of ready-made?
We measure at our Business Bay clinic in Dubai (30–45 minutes), during a home visit in Dubai or Abu Dhabi (45–60 minutes), or by guided video consultation (20–30 minutes); in-clinic and virtual fittings are free when a garment is bought from us. Ready-made garments such as the JUZO Move AD come in standard sizes and are held in stock, while custom flat-knit garments are made to your own measurements at Juzo in Germany and take 3 to 4 weeks from the day measurements are confirmed. Wear loose clothing that gives easy access to the leg being measured.
How do I put the stockings on if I find them difficult to manage?
Turn the stocking inside out down to the heel, place your foot in, then work it up the leg smoothing the wrinkles as you go, and never pull it up by the top band. The JUZO Move AD and Move AG use Juzo's patented slide-knit technology and an enlarged heel so they glide on more easily, which helps if grip strength is limited or compression is new to you. The Arion Magnide Aid 2in1 1709 uses a magnetic system to put stockings on and take them off without bending, and works with both open-toe and closed-toe stockings.
How do I wash them, how long do they last, and do I wear them at night?
Machine wash at 40 °C on a gentle cycle in a mesh laundry bag with a detergent made for compression garments — no fabric softener, no tumble drying and no ironing, as heat and softener destroy the elastic fibres. A medical compression garment usually lasts 4 to 6 months of daily wear before it stops compressing properly, so replacing roughly every six months is normal. Standard compression stockings come off at night; some situations call for a purpose-made night garment instead, which is a question for your clinician or our specialist.
