Frequently Asked Questions
What is REV.SUN50 Sun care protection SPF 50+?
REV.SUN50 is a high-protection SPF 50+ sun cream in a 75 ml tube, made in Italy and formulated for sensitive, healing skin such as new scars and tattoos. It gives UVA and UVB protection, is water-resistant and dermatologically tested. It is a sun protection product, not a treatment for any condition, and it is used alongside whatever scar care your clinician has advised.
Why does a healing scar need sun protection?
New scar tissue and fresh tattoos are more vulnerable to ultraviolet light than surrounding skin, and sun exposure can darken a scar in a way that does not fade, slow its natural fading, or contribute to thickening. A high-factor sunscreen over the area is one of the simplest ways to limit that exposure while the scar is still changing. If you are unsure whether your wound or scar is ready for sunscreen, ask the surgeon or clinician who is following your recovery.
How should I apply it, and how often?
Apply a generous, even layer to the scar and the skin around it before you go outside, and give it a few minutes to settle on the skin. Reapply regularly through the day, and again after swimming, heavy sweating or towel-drying — the formula is water-resistant, but no sunscreen stays at full strength indefinitely. Only apply to intact, closed skin, and follow your clinician's instructions if your wound is still open or dressed.
Can I use it under a compression garment or with silicone scar products?
Sunscreen should be fully absorbed before a compression garment, sleeve or silicone sheet goes on, so the fabric is not left greasy and the compression sits evenly against the skin. If you use more than one scar product, the order and timing are best confirmed with your clinician or with our fitting specialist, since it depends on what has been prescribed for you. Remember that most compression garments and clothing do not block all UV, so exposed edges still need protection.
How long should I keep protecting the scar, and where can I ask questions?
Clinicians commonly advise protecting a scar from the sun for as long as it is still red, pink or actively changing colour, but how long that lasts is different for every person and every procedure — your treating doctor should set that timeline. In the UAE the sun is strong for most of the year, so protection matters even on short walks and cloudy days. You can ask us anything about the product through this chat, the phone number or the contact form on our Contact page, or at our clinic at 610 Clover Bay Tower, Business Bay, Dubai.
